fraser island update

okay blog o maniacs I am finally online again.  it seems internet access has been elusive these last several days and combined with the fact it has just been too too beautiful here for words....plus the quantities of VB I have been consuming have kept me from the quill.... but alas the VB is away for now and I scribe some poignant notes..

With Margery & David we left Peregian Springs a lovely quiet little hamlet in the sunshine coast embarking on an apprx 2+ hour drive up the coast to Fraser Island.    We pass through several quaint little towns (no bigger than enfield and some smaller perhaps) stop for a beverage or two along the way .  We arrive at Rainbow Beach and stay for the night at Rainbow Backpackers Motel (David/Margery recommendation)  it was adequate but more suited for the 20-30 yr old travelling waitress set but was fun anyway.   We hiked up to the sandblow an immense area where the wind blows sand from the ocean up the mountain and kids and folks come here and boogie board down the sand.  Way cool and the the sunset--absolutely magical!!!
On the way up we spotted a restaurant Waterview that looked very intriguing and on inspection David realized he knew of the owners.     Finding out also they have a courtesy driver pickup from hotel we opted to eat here and was delicious.   more later on our meals and such just giving the overview here.  There was no waterview alas as it was evening and dark..oh well drink more we have a ride home!

At rainbow lodge the pub had a karaoke display and we put Myra's talents on display against these idiot children!!   she knocked it out as usual and we continued on with our VB ingestation.....

waking early we go to rent our 4wd jeep land cruiser and embark for the ferry to Fraser Island - a world heritage site and about 40-50 km long island of just sand dunes and inland jungle and inner lakes which are stunning.    Driving down the beach was fun and I got to partake in the driving and is interesting again (1) on the left and (2) with waves crashing into to us or avoiding the waves for the most part.

driving inland was somewhat treacherous very narrow and VERY VERY Bumpy and rocky.   4wd a must-- myra none to pleased and did not fare so well  but troopered hrough nonetheless.   we stopped at several spots notably Lake mackenzie which is absolutely picturesque and clear to the bottom.  (pics to follow)
our resort for the night was Eulong Beach resort which is a multi complex sort of place and very nice rooms with kitchen.    We barbied some steaks and such and made ourselves a pleasant meal together with wine naturally.      we encountered a team of photogs taking images for the resort's new website and marketing publications and possibly are featured in a couple shots...so us Yanks could be on the literature of the "EURONG RESORT" -- oh thats so "eu -wrong!

anyway we survived and got off the island although got dicey there and may not have made it through a couple spots for the tide if we were about 15 minutes later..

anyway driving back to Peregian Springs to Margerys to prepare for our next venture north to cairns and pt douglas.
later loves & mates
