What to pack or not to pack? That is the question says Billy Shakespeare. Im goin with my old Pepaw's response on what to bring down to florida----"shorts n a tshirt"! Good advice ceptin he didnt have to worry bout cellphones & gps! Tryin to get verizon to enable iphones for global coverage is a job in itself but me thinks its worked out. I hv iphone 4 so not compatible so getting a loaner droid or blkberry to use while away. So now i hv to relearn a whole new ph op system! How am i supposed to text & drive, on the wrong side of the road & learning new ph commands???
Anyway finishing touches on squaring away biz, makin checklists & getting kitty sitters...

Overview of Itinerary
Okay so our trip is over 3 weeks in Oz and we will basically see the entire East Coast of Australia (which is basically where ALL the citizens of Oz actually live)....everywhere else is pretty much desert so I would say we picked the right areas to wander....ya think?
We fly into Brisbane where we will meet our great & wonderful friend Margery....everyone remember her? What?!! No!! Impossible. She was my "best man"...hmm.. okay "best person" at our wedding!! Okay now you remember! good. We will go and stay with Margery & her classically debonair & quite tall hubby David. Yes okay he is an Aussie but he isn't all bad!!! He can handle a good pint fer sure!
But I digress. After a few days at Peregian Springs where they live we drive up to Frasier Island and tour around and see some stuff (more on the stuff in subsequent posts).
Returning to Brisbane we will fly to Cairns and head up to Port Douglas and spend about 3 days touring the Great Barrier Reef scuba and/or snorkeling and also the Daintree Rainforest. Again, seeing more stuff!!
Flying back to Brisbane, we will join up with M&D and have an authentic Australian Sushi lunch at a great sushi takeaway spot and make a 2-3 hr drive to Byron Bay (gold coast)
We will be here for about 2 days including on our anniversary date 13 Oct and celebrate our anniversary and the engagement of M&D (they were engaged at Byron Bay in 2009-10). On Sunday we bid adieu to M&D and drive south down Rt 1 (pacific coast hwy---and no not the one in California!!) We will spend two nights on the road probably in Coffs Harbour and then in Bellingen. We finally settle in/around Newcastle/Pokolbin which is in the Hunter Valley Wine Region. We found a VERY Charming small guesthouse in the heart of wine country where we will stay for at least 2 nights (and maybe we will stay if we get pickled enough on wine!!)
But upon sobering, we must press on to Sydney. Driving south and through Manley Beach and over the famous Sydney Bridge we turn in our car keys and venture off to city living and public transportation. We will again see lots and lots more stuff in & around Sydney including the Opera house and probably Blue Mountain. AFter Sydney we take flight (in a plane of course) to Melbourne our final stop of the tour and spend 2 days EATING everything. Melbourne is a total Foodie city--so I already love it the most of the trip!! We then hop a flight back to the States, land before we take off and kiss the ground as we arrive in USA!!
Okay so more on the stuff we see more laterer!!!

Introduction
Hello all
I am writing this blog to chronicle our travels to Australia (aka OZ) during the course of October 2012. But really I am writing this blog as a dedication to my mother, Mary Virginia Miree Wirtz (aka Beebe). My mom constantly and repetitively insisted I (and my siblings) write daily journals of our activities and adventures. I'm sorry Mom...I was never very good at chronicling my daily activities and adventures. My very bad bad!! Well mom I am going to try this time and spend a couple minutes (or at least 15-20 each day of our trip chronicling what we saw, what we ate, drank, did. So, this blog is for you mom!! I love you and miss you!!
for all the rest, enjoy our travels and adventures and wish you all could be with us but know you are in spirit.
More to follow....
